EuroProt+ device RSTP support

Can the EuroProt+ devices applied in RSTP-networks?

EuroProt+ IEDs are allowed to connect to RSTP capable switches however IEDs are not processing RSTP management frames just simply let them through via station bus interfaces. IED station bus interfaces are in switched mode that means these ports are connected internally to a switch chip that is not taking care of RSTP traffic. The external substation switches have to handle loop detection and external switch port blocking to break up loop.

Switchover time is dependent on external switch setting. Typically in seconds range if there is no link change, but if the interface link also changes then it is in 100ms range. EuroProt+ IEDs are allowed to install in any xSTP supported network. All the redundancy functions are carried out at substation switch level.

Note, that only CPU+/Axx1 modules are exceptions, which cannot be applied in RSTP-networks.

The necessary IED setting with CPU+/Axx2 modules: System settings \ Station bus settings (or IP network settings, depending on the firmware version) \ Redundancy mode -> None
